Biography

The music of multi-instrumentalist, composer Oumi Kapila has been heard from theaters to televisions to sold out arenas around the world.  Whether it’s featured in his guitar work with the band Filter or interwoven in a film or trailer campaign, this British-born, Australian composer’s unique style is unmistakable. 

 

With roots in classical music, Kapila’s talent was recognized at various performances and competitions at an early age.  At 15, he was awarded first place at the prestigious Eisteddfod Australia festival performing the music of Astor Piazzola.  At age 17 he attended the illustrious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, where he majored in jazz performance and was one of six young finalists selected to compete for the country wide James Morrison Jazz Scholarship.  Upon moving to Los Angeles Kapila met Filter frontman, Richard Patrick, who quickly enlisted him to co-write, co-produce, and engineer the remainder of an album in progress. Within a month, he was also recruited to fulfill lead guitar duties in the band. Crazy Eyes was released in early 2016, spanning a world-wide promotional tour of the record.

 

Gifted with a lifelong a passion to compose, Kapila shifted gears to pursue opportunities in film and television and found immediate success creating music for trailers on notable projects such as Chernobyl, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The X-Files and The Mule.  He was one of eight composers selected by BMI’s Film/TV department to participate in the 21st Annual BMI conductor’s workshop under the direction of Grammy winning conductor Lucas Richman, spotlighting the next wave in talent for composing.

 

Kapila’s score is prominently featured in the upcoming Cary Elwes starring film, ‘The Hyperions’ , directed by Jon McDonald and an EP of original works with the Budapest Scoring Orchestra in conjunction with Silo Music.  Additionally, he recently released his debut album, ‘Bending Stress’ , highlighting his rock, industrial, electronic, jazz background and also an album of original classical works entitled ‘Fix’ . Kapila is presently working on his third album; a mixture of more original classical works, together with some lesser known pieces by Schumann, Debussy, and Bach.
